My absolute favorite thing to photograph is a new, fresh newborn baby and their loving family!

This is for a NEWBORN (1-2 weeks old) Session with their parents and siblings to be held at my studio in Boise, ID. Newborn sessions focus on their sweet littlness and interacting with family.

Newborn sessions can take 3-4 hours in studio to complete (this time is included in your package fee)

This special does not include any Maternity Portraits or Extended Family portraits. (see below for Maternity Newborn Packages)

$399 due at the time of booking. We will send you an invoice via PayPal - If it is more than 4 months til your due date you may pay 1 half at the time of booking and 1/2 when baby arrives.

This is how voting will work - after you have viewed all 20 finalists and their stories, there is a POLL for voting near the bottom of this post.

Kayden is a very special little girl. She was diagnosed with bilateral sensorineural hearing loss at birth. She received her first hearing aids December 24, 2008 at only two months old. On April 5, 2010 Kayden was implanted with a cochlear implant on her left ear. She is also developmentally delayed, even though she is an overly happy two year old, she has the mentality of a one year old. She has a smile that is contagious and beautiful long brown hair that cathces everyone attention. She loves to smile and her favorite thing to do is watch other people. She absolutely loves spongebob sqaurepants and chicken nuggets!

This is Ellee , she is eight years old. This picture is on her eighth birthday with her two dogs. For the second year in a row, she asked her guests that attended her birthday party to bring dog food for the animal shelter as her gift. After the party, she took the donations down to the Meridian Animal shelter. The first year Ellee did this she was able to donate 108 pounds of dog food. Last year, she donated over 300!! She is very smart, sweet, and loving. Her world revolves around animals of all types, but mainly dogs.

Hi, my name is Taquari!! I am 1 and lots of fun. What makes me special is my winning smile and my ability to brigten up a whole room with my pressaunce. I love to dance and play foot ball but most of all I love to take pictures. I like to take my mommys phone and take pictures allll the time. So I hope my smile touches your heart like it does my family and friends.

This is my little SUPER Baby, Bria Mae!! She is barely 7 months old in this picture (taken last week) standing up in her crib. All the other 7 monthers I know are just sitting around and some are barely doing that... my daughter is holding onto things and trying to walk already! This makes her a SUPER baby in my eyes.

Hi my name is Joshua! I am special in my own way because I am one of a kind and there's no one else quite like me. Im always very happy and all smiles. My blue eyes can light up the room. I love getting my picture taken and alway give my parent's a grin when they turn on there camera.

Alyssa absolutely LOVES to go exploring and see the world around her. On this day we were visiting her great grandparents and during our walk she found a golf ball and a stick. These were her treasures for the rest of the day and there was no way she was letting go of them. She spends all her waking hours learning new things and trying to discover how the world around her works. Our walks are filled with her telling us everything she sees and asking about the things she doesn't understand yet. We enjoy her love of life and learning everyday.

Reese is an amazing little boy full of joy and happiness. His out-going attitude and drive for adventures make each day new and exciting. No day is ever the same! His giggle is contagious and his smile makes you melt. His kisses are slobbery bunches of loves and his hugs make you never want to let go.He is the miracle that has blessed many and continues to surprise and amaze everyone with new steps and stages he ventures into. As he is growing and learning new and exciting things, we are always on our toes never knowing what is going to happen next. He lives in the moment and we cherish every second to the fullest!

Last January, our family was blessed with a little something extra. Yes, our radiant new baby brought extra love, extra snuggles, extra lovely stormy blue eyes to gaze into. But she also brought us something we never expected: an extra chromosome. Having a child with Down syndrome is nothing that ever entered my wildest imaginations about the family I always wanted. But I've learned that life happens exactly as it's supposed to... and sometimes it throws a little something extra in to mix things up. Our Mirabel Ruby is a daymaker. Her constant smiles literally light up a room, and I have the extra special pleasure of watching my lovely daughter brighten the days of people everywhere we go. We have some extra work ahead of us, and some extra challenges, too. But I'm extra excited to experience life through these amazing almond-shaped eyes.

Her fearless attitude towards life. Nyomi has always been on the smaller side for her age but she was practically born walking and talking. She started walking at only 9 months and never stopped going. Her sense of humor keeps our whole family laughing all the time. She is not shy to ask for what she needs and is very loving to her family and friends. She is constantly trying to keep up with her 5 year old sister and does a good job at it. She was moved from the mommy and me class to her gymnastics class when she was less than two and a half because of her development. She has been the smallest one in her gymnastics class because the starting age is three but her size has never stopped her because she keeps up with all of them.

I am James and the stinker of the family. The stinker part explains everything. I am into everything, I even get up on the kitchen table and dance. You may run and chase me but it dont work. I may be cute with big blue eyes and give the best kisses around but watch out, I AM A STINKER...

Adeline has lots of things that she loves to do. She really likes dancing with her mama, getting kisses from papa and spending time with friends. However, our baby girl has a secret identity.

What makes Addie unique is her dream to grow up and be just like her favorite super hero, the Caped Crusader. Every day Addie works on developing her physical strength so that she can fight for justice. She trains tirelessly by rolling from her tummy to her back, holding her head steady and bearing weight on her legs. But don’t worry… no Batmobile for our little crime fighter yet. Until she can drive herself, we will make sure she arrives to her epic battles safely.

What makes Connor so special? As you can see from the photograph, Connor was born with Bi-lateral Clubbed feet; a congenital birth defect which affects one out of every thousand children. When Connor's parents first heard the news his mother was only 5 months pregnant. They were told he would be slow to roll over, crawl and walk like most kids and there was a slight chance his feet may not fully correct at all. This worried Connor's parents. But what makes this little boy so special is his little spark and determination. Despite 6 months of castings, surgeries and braces this little boy is full speed ahead!! He let's NOTHING slow him down! He is 8 months now and is crawling and learning to pull himself up on things. So much for being "slow" eh? He has two very proud parents who think that this little boys drive and determination.

Chandler recently spent two weeks in the hospital at St. Lukes in Boise. When he first entered the hospital the staff were not sure what was wrong with him. He was having a very hard time breathing and was very tired all the time. At the end the docotors forgot to run a very simple test and Chandler was diagnosed with RSV, a very common virus in infants. In spite of all the pointless test that were preformed on Chandler his spirits were still held high and he could still light up a room with his beautiful smile. What makes him so special is he has such a contagious personality. Though everything he went through he still yeld onto his smile and passed that on to the people around him. This is a picture of him in the hospital, bringing light to those around him.

My Taylor is one very special little girl. She is so full of personality and goofiness that just fills a room with laughter. She is also very very smart and witty and comes up with the funniest things to say. She is currently one of the most advanced kids in her preschool class and is already is learning to read. She loves to be un the spotlight and is always singing. Since she was 2 she could hear a song twice and already know most of the words. A truly gifted little girl.

Hayven was born 11 weeks premature, at 2lbs 15 oz she earned her name as little miss Diva in the St. Lukes NICU. Hayven spent two months in nicu where her nurses dressed her up in head bands and bows from the day she was born. At just under 3 pounds Hayven had a diva personality! She is a strong individual, she fought a long 2 month battle with a blood transfusion and medications to help her breathe, she has been a fighter from the the very beginning. Hayven knows what she wants and is the smartest little diva ever with a sparkle in her eye and her diva little laughs and giggles, she is such a blessing and a miracle. Hayven is home and healthy and the happiest little diva that any one could ever ask for!

This is Tyler and his puppy Monkey. This picture is special because Tyler's motivation to crawl at five months old was trying to chase Monkey around the house.
He absolutely loves playing with her, chasing her around the table and playing hide and seek. She will most likely be his motivation to walk as well. He is special because he is the youngest and only boy of three children, he has made our blended family complete. He is very vivacious and always happy. He is all boy in all that he does, very adventurous and outgoing. Tyler loves "talking" to everyone he meets and being the center of attention. Tyler is truly loved and enjoyed by all who all meet him.

This is my daughter Shayna and she loves to just have her picture taken...24-7! She was a very sick child until she was 6 years old. She was so sick she never felt like doing anything and always had shinier eyes from low oxygen levels. So the fact that she is now healthy (thanks to a Chiropractor) and want to do anything is just an awesome gift. She also enjoys playing with her friends, ice skating, bowling, playing with her brother and sisters and playing volleyball.

This is Chandelle - What makes my child unique-
Her compassion, even at 1 is amazing. She has such a caring heart and love towards animals. She can be seen kissing a cat, rubbing noses with a dog or just having tea with all her "animals".

This is Kaylor, in about February 2010. The reason that I am submitting this picture is because Kaylor was physically abused and hospitalized for about 2 months. This picture was taken right after we were able to come home for the first time. I look at this picture and completely believe if this little boy almost lost his life at the hands of another person, and can turn around and flash his momma a wink...that we as adults can overcome ANYTHING! Kaylor is truly an inspirational little man, and his story can most definetely inspire anyone.

My daughter Mackenzie is good at many things. She is a wonderful gymnist, she is smart and funny as well, but the thing that puts me in awe about my child is her absolute ability to overcome anything. Her ability to laugh and smile and dance and sing. This wasn't always the case. Kenzie came into this world screaming and didn't stop screaming until we discovered after two years and many infections later. That she was in a great deal of pain. She had several ounces of fluid pushing against each ear drum. She couldn't hear us so she was unable to learn the words that would have told us, "mommy I am hurting" two years and 5 months later, we met a wonderful specialist who put an end to my child's pain. I chose this picture because this picture was the first picture taken after Kenzie recovered from her surgery. This is Kenzie playing and singing and dancing in the water, for the first time pain free. This is my favorite picture because she is pain free and happy, and to me it was the first time she was able to be herself. Kenzie's favorite thing to do now is sing and dance. She can hear us and we can hear her. I love my girl so much and this picture brings tears to my eyes everytime I look at it. Thank you for letting me share a litle bit of her with you.

However, once we started it, several other local photographers had a similar contest - with the SAME name - at the same exact time. So to avoid any

Photo guidelines:

No professional photographs - Professional photographers in Idaho may not enter their children. If you enter Professional Photographs from another photographer you will be disqualified from being a finalist.

Blurry or unclear photographs will be disqualified.

You may enter images taken in 2010 or 2011.

You may enter each of your children but each needs their own photograph and paragraph.

Christmas Mini Sessions -

Christmas Mini Sessions will take place at my Studio in Boise. You May choose 1 plain background (red, pink, green, baby blue, mocha) and also use my New "Holiday" background

Session will last about 45 min.

I will have sessions on Selected days (see below - I will add more days/time if needed). If you need a later time, please contact me. I can be flexible. These sessions are for 1-2 children only at this price. I can do groups of 3-4 children but it will adjust the pricing. This is recommended for children 6 months (sitting) - 10 years old. If your child is younger, consider doing a Lala's Littles Session (The Lala's Littles Session - see link on sidebar - includes more time, more changes and the opportunity to pop Mom/Dad or Siblings into the session - it includes more "stuff" too!)

I absolutely cannot wait until Fall! I am having fall Mini Sessions for Children on October 16th (and maybe on Oct 24th)

The session will last 20 minutes and will take place outdoors (in case of bad weather we will have to reschedule) in a FALL THEMED setting. I will have props such as fall leaves, apples, pumpkins, benches, buckets, chairs,wagons etc.

It will be for CHILDREN only. No family groups.

Date October 16th (I will add October 24th if needed)

Cost: $99 for one child $149 for 2 children (You may schedule multiple sessions)
(Children need to be old enough to hold their head up and sit with support for safety reasons - around 6-7 months)

This is for a NEWBORN (1-2 weeks old) Session with their parents and siblings to be held at my studio in Boise, ID. Newborn sessions focus on their sweet littlness and interacting with family. Newborn sessions can take 3-4 hours in studio to complete.
This special does not include any Maternity Portraits or Extended Family portraits.

$399 due at the time of booking.

This Price includes your session - The time and talent of the Photographer, and the creation and editing of your digital proofs. You will receive a online portrait gallery within 2 weeks of your session so you may choose your images.

Fairytales and Daydreams - Fairytale Portraiture in Boise, ID

On May 1st we welcomed several little fairies into our Fairy Den. We all donned our favorite colors and summoned the butterflies to fly and flit around us. We giggled and searched for other fairies in the forest and even saw a few! Afterwards, we all feasted on Nectar and Fairycakes....

At this event, girls 2 years - 8 years get to dress up like Enchanting Fairies and are photographed by me, Lauren Harms in an outdoor setting.

I CAN photograph little boys (1-5 years) as "Sprites". I am fine with an older boy, if they WANT to be a sprite!!

If you would like an older or younger child to participate, please contact me - The reason why we didn't include younger than 2 years is because they take more time, and older than 8 we have a hard time having dresses that fit properly and modestly.

When: June 12 from 10am -4pm. (see below for available times)
Where: Boise ID (you will receive the location when you book)

Cost: $49 creative fer per child photographed. Each child gets a 15 minute session with me - groups of 2-3 are okay, but you must book an appointment for each girl back to back - I do not guarantee posed group photos. Each child gets a Complimentary 8x10 portrait of themselves and a special prize. We also provide Snacks and Juice for everyone.

You may choose to purchase additonal portraits - Your deposit will go toward your order - We will have portrait packages from $79 - $499 and they include things like prints, keepsake books, and enlargements.

Meet Abigail - The Littlest Heroes Project

I met Abigail and her family through The Littlest Heroes Project. The Littlest Heroes Project is non-profit based organization founded in January 2008 , made up of professional photographers nationwide that provide free photo sessions to our nations Littlest Heroes. Through the power of photography we are giving back and taking a stand for these children who sometimes feel forgotten because of their illnesses. We are here to let them know that they are heroes to many, and to share their inspirational stories and photos with the world.

Abigail is 8 months old - she is a beautiful little girl - big blue eyes, long lashes and curls to swoon over.

This is Abigail's Story:

When I was born I could not breathe - I was immediately incubated and whisked away. I spent a month and a half in the NICU until I had a Tracheotomy and a Nissen Fundoplication followed with a GT placement.I was placed up in the PICU where I was closely monitored. I spent a half a month there before I could go home. Since being home I have been in and out of the hospital due to surgical procedures and respiratory infections and many more hospital visits to come that are out of my control. At home I am on a ventilator to help me breathe and a oximeter to tell my parents and nurses what my oxygen level is and what my heart rate is. My parents recently found out my heart has been stopping for short periods of time but to the point the doctors worry about me going into cardiac arrest so in the possible near future if it doesn't get better I could possibly have a pacemaker put in but for now I am living everyday to the fullest with my family. I am a resilient 8 month old who has faith I will overcome all my obstacles and to one day being a "normal" healthy little girl.

I can't help it, I just have a soft spot for twins. There are no sets of twins in my family (or my husbands) and I knew very few twins growing up (I think I only went to school with 1 set of twins) - I just think it's so special - two babies! Double the love!

Last Monday, I was sitting at the studio (working!) and noticed a basket I had purchased recently. I had used it in a newborn session a few weeks prior and now it was just sitting there, all lonely like, holding some extra blankets...at the same time I was writing an email to client asking them what color balloons they wanted for their birthday session....Balloons?

I grabbed my phone, called one of my favorite clients, and begged her to stop in the next day for a quick session...and this is what we got...

This is a great way to remember your little one as they grow! I often hear "Our baby has grown so much since their newborn portraits! What kind of deals do you have?"

Popular Milestones are 3 months, 6 months, 9 months, and 1 year old or every 2 months. Everyone I've talked to has expressed an interest in having prints and digital images - but did not want to be "stuck" in a contract.

This is something new we are going to try out for 2010. We love meeting Mommy's (and Daddy's) to be - maternity portaits are a special private time for the new parents to connect and concentrate on THEM before baby makes Three (or more!)

Every Monday we will post a challege or just a call for comments here and on our Facebook Page for New Clients that are expecting. One New Client will win a Free Maternity Portrait Session and digital image package each Monday.

You will have 10-15 images in your gallery to choose from within 5 days.

Up to 3 people included (this is the most I can photograph in the studio usually, Ask if you have a larger group)

I was so happy to finally get to meet this wonderful family - We had some scheduling snafus but we set a date and they invited us (me and my Husband/Assistant) out to their amazing Farm in Emmett! I was all over that - we had a relaxing drive out there...and for the photos, well I'll let them talk for themselves...

We went for a walk down the street and found (well, they knew it was there!) a dance hall. I loved the red walls - perfect background!

I love this photo! The truck was there and I asked them if it was abandoned - YES! That's like, photographer heaven right there!

I loved these flowers in their yard! (and the Baby J? The cutest baby ever - with the sweetest laugh!)

and the winner, of course.

Grandparents Day Portrait Event - September 13 2009

Growing up, I was VERY close to my Grandmas. One lived just down the road and babysat me everyday while my Mom worked, and the other lived across the country in Pennsylvania. The memories and the photos I have of them (I have 1 photo of both of my Grandma's together and I am working on getting an enlargement of it for my apartment, I love it!!) are priceless to me. I never had professional portraits taken with them, and now, I wish I had. My Grandma Frances (My Mom's Mom) did have a professional portrait taken of herself in the 80's (I remember being completely awed by the professional studio and that I lost my Michael Jackson purse there LOL!) and my Mom has a 16x20 on her wall, and I can say "Hi" to Grandma everyday.

I recently tried to barter with someone for a prop I wanted, in exchange for portraits of their Grandchildren, they politely declined, saying they got to see their grandchildren every day. The sad thing is, we don't get to see our Grandparents everyday forever.

Shady Lane Studios is would like to invite you to a magical land of Fairies, Pixies and Sprites!

Introducing "Fairytales and Daydreams" - Fairy Portraits in the Park!

All girls will be photographed in one of a kind fairy outfits with props in an outdoor setting by Award Winning Photographer Lauren Harms. All participating girls will receive a Complimentary 5x7 Portrait and a special gift.Additonal Portraits will be available to purchase.

When: May 9th 10am-3pm - (see below for times - You must schedule an appointment time when you RSVP.If you have 1-2 girls, schedule 1 time slot, if you have 2-4 girls, schedule 2 back to back.)

Where: Boise, ID (you will receive directions when you RSVP)

Who: Girls 2-8 years old. We can photograph 9 months and older and girls older than 8 but you need to let us know in advance so we can make sure we have costumes to fit.

Cost: There is no charge for this event if you have not been to one of our events before. If you have,there is a $15 session fee per girl.

Lil Buckaroos Dress-up Event

Both Shane and I love portraits of children with unique props and costumes - Together we are offering some Portrait Events for this spring and summer! We are very excited to announce our first event -

Lil Buckaroos! Classic Cowboy Portraits of Boys 3-10.

Fee: Since this our very first event there is no charge! Each child photographed will receive a Free 5x7 Portrait and a special gift.

We are only accepting 10 more children for our 11 am event. Once that is full we will consider opening more times. First come, first served.

We're busy as bees working on getting the New Studio ready for our Grand Opening! If you are on our mailing list - We will be sending information out soon about some exciting Events and our Mother's Day Special!

Also - I've gotten several comments on the blog, and a few emails about the winners of the Fresh Faces contest. I'm sorry if you are disappointed about who won - The winners were chosen by the most about of UNIQUE VOTES they received. We did not disqualify anyone for repeat voting in one day (and there was alot of this) - instead the polling website alerted us to duplicate votes by the same IP address and we deleted those. All of the children entered in the contest were adorable, and it was a long process between Shane, Myself, and suggestions from our Photographer friends around the world - to chose the top 13.

Please don't be a sore loser - We are planning a Special event JUST for the finalists of the contest that did not place - and a special coupon will be sent out to ALL that entered. We look forward to meeting everyone!

We have a big week coming up - I do alot of maternity portraits, and it seems like this week is THE week that every baby is being born! So far One was born last week (should see him this weekend), two were born this week, and 1 is scheduled for next week! I have two more maternity sessions scheduled for March too, so that means - it's all about BABIES! Yay! I love babies!

Session Fee $100 (up to 3 people, $25 per person thereafter)

Session Fee includes the photographers time (Either Lauren or Shane) and talent for 1-2 hours ONE location of your choice (Weather Permitting) or in Our Studio or in your home in The Boise Area (newborns only). It also covers the creation of your digital proofs and viewing gallery and any minor retouching needed. Book a package (see below) and your session fee is free!

Consultations at our studio or at the location of your choice in Boise/Eagle are always free!

Additonal Locations/time may require additional fees. Session Fee is required at the time of booking to hold your appointment time.

Up to 20 images will be posted for viewing on a online slideshow within 2 weeks of Session Date.
